In this thought-provoking episode, Pastor Les and Pastor Luz dive into the question many people ask—but few are willing to answer:

Is there really such a thing as “The Perfect Pastor?”

Together, we unpack the unrealistic expectations people often place on pastors, church leaders, and those called to shepherd God’s people. From being expected to always have the right answers, never make mistakes, always be available, and somehow balance ministry, marriage, family, and personal faith perfectly.

This honest conversation is for pastors, church leaders, ministry volunteers, and anyone who has ever struggled with expectations inside the church. You’ll be challenged to replace unrealistic standards with biblical truth, extend grace, and see pastors as people God is still shaping and using.

In this episode, we discuss:

• The myth of the “perfect pastor”

• Unrealistic expectations placed on church leaders

• Why grace should flow both ways in the church

• Encouragement for both leaders and church members

Whether you’re serving in ministry or simply want a healthier perspective on church leadership, this conversation will encourage, challenge, and strengthen your faith.

You expect your pastor to be perfect, to have a perfect life, to have a perfect marriage, to have perfect children, to be all around perfect, no flaws, but you're not perfect. Let's talk about it.

SPEAKER_06

What's going on, everybody, and welcome back.

SPEAKER_01

What are you doing, spiritual samurai?

SPEAKER_06

To another episode of Talking with Purpose. Talking with Purpose. Brought to you by none other than Pastor Les, and we're always the beautiful, the multifaceted, the amazing and talented, three brains in one, Pastor Los Gignones. So, babe, bring us that topic.

SPEAKER_02

Let's talk about the perfect pastor.

SPEAKER_06

Let's talk about the perfect pastor. Yeah, let's talk about the perfect pastor. Real quick. I think that all of us that have been in church can look back at pastors we've had and we can say, man, he was the perfect pastor.

SPEAKER_02

I don't I don't think I could say that.

SPEAKER_06

I can say that.

SPEAKER_02

I can't.

SPEAKER_06

I can honestly say that. I'm not I'm not kidding. Pastor Frank Pacheco, may he rest in peace. That man to me, I look back and be like, he was the perfect pastor. But we all know that no one is. Right. What I'm saying is that we give these pastors these titles because of how our relationship is with them, right?

SPEAKER_04

Yep.

SPEAKER_06

So but is there really a perfect pastor? Can that be found? Does it have to do with niceness? What would you here we go? A question for you. What would make a pastor perfect for you? Now wait, before you answer, I I need you to take away the fact that we don't know that people will never be f perfect.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_06

We don't know that. Right now we're just as blind as anybody could be.

SPEAKER_02

So the old me. Uh-huh. Okay. To me, the perfect pastor would be someone who was accessible. Right? Like, right? Um, some like someone that you know that if you texted them or called them, like they will be there, like they would answer the phone. Um, someone who didn't like let's be real, someone who didn't have struggles, right? And I'm talking about the old me, because I've grown so much. Uh the me before pastoring, let's say that. Um someone who really cared about you, right? Like really looked into your best interest and and checked on you. Um who wasn't fake. Yeah, I think that's like the main the main things that I can say.

SPEAKER_06

And all of those have to do with characteristics.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

All of those are specific characteristics that we look for so we can label that man a perfect pastor. But the reality is, guys, that there will never be one. For example, we're pastoring a church right now, right? And I haven't heard you're the perfect pastor yet.

SPEAKER_00

The best. I've heard the past. I've heard the best.

SPEAKER_06

I've heard the best. And that I could accept that. Because even saying the word you're the best, they're not saying that you don't have flaws.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_06

They're saying that the way you are, it's relatable to them.

SPEAKER_02

It's better than what I've had.

SPEAKER_06

It's better than what I've had, exactly.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Where do you think the mindset of a perfect pastor comes from?

SPEAKER_06

I don't know. If I could answer that, I would think that the mindset, excuse me. If I could answer that, I would think that the mindset of a perfect pastor comes from religion? I think that religion has a lot to do with us looking at people that are in that pastoral role and labeling labeling them perfect because my mind you when when you're when you're religious-minded, you not only seek perfection, you try to live perfection. You try to live the actual word out. We have flaws. We all have flaws that we have to deal with and manage with on the daily. So I think that for me, I would say religion is what makes us look towards saying perfect pastor.

SPEAKER_02

I would agree with religion, but I would also add in there the world. And the reason why I add in the world is because a lot of people have this celebrity mindset, right? So for example, if you uh because I'm gonna use this because you love the rock, if you saw Dwayne Johnson, there ain't right, like that man to you, and I'm not, and and this I'm I'm being very sarcastic. That man to you is perfect. He's the greatest. He is the greatest of all time. The greatest of the world. You see what I'm saying? So you bring people now they've converted.

SPEAKER_06

That's good. I like that you bring that and used me with the rock, because that's no, that's good. That's really good.

SPEAKER_02

And now they come to church and it's almost groupie like. Like we've talked about this.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

How you you guys, people who don't serve or or you don't know this side of church, there is a such thing as groupies, okay? Yes. I'm talking, they come up to the to the pastor or the preacher that is a visitor, they come up to the musicians that came to to worship or sing, and it's like, it's to me, it's ridiculous. Like, I'm not saying that I'm I'm the most holiest of holy per people on earth, but if there's one thing I don't have, and you can you can attest to this, I don't care for celebrities, I don't care for anybody. I get it, some people live off of that. You know what I'm saying? Like, that's their livelihood, and I'm not taking away from that because we're pastoring, and it takes a lot, it takes a lot of hours to prepare your sermons. Y'all don't know how many text messages, phone calls, um, counseling sessions we be doing. Like, and y'all see and and people, and I'm not saying y'all, like y'all, but people um expect us to do it without a pay. Right? Like, do you go to work for 40 hours a week and come home to no pay? Like, God forbid. Oh, but the pastor has to do this out of the kindness of his heart, right? Like, that's mad inconsiderate.

SPEAKER_06

That's very inconsiderate.

SPEAKER_02

But I digress.

SPEAKER_06

And it's ridiculous, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

But my point is that I'm not somebody that's gonna sit here and pay $500 to see T.D. Jakes come in to preach. Um, what where is it being live streamed? Fantastic. That's where I'm gonna watch it. You know what I'm saying? Like, because you're not like you're not gonna be able to touch T.D. Jakes.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Like, I'm not paying to be VIP and get a picture with T.D. Jakes. You know, like we went to see Priscilla Shire. And I love, let me just say, I love, love, love, love, love, loved how this woman did her woman's conference because we flew out to Florida to see her. And the tickets were cheap. They were 80 bucks for a like whole day woman's conference. Um, but what I loved is that at the very start of the conference, she was like, Y'all didn't come here for me. Y'all came here for Jesus. Right. Like, don't, please don't. Like, and I love that she did that. She walked around the whole, like, it was like a gym type of thing. She walked around the whole gym. She said hi to people. Like, I love that she did that because she wasn't allowing people to put her on that pedestal.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_02

You know, even though there's people that do enjoy that pedestal.

SPEAKER_06

Right. But you know, that's where I was gonna go to next.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but again, a lot of people they they come to church or they they come and and and now convert to Christianity, or now they they decide to follow Jesus with the mindset of the world. So you have the the religious people who train you to think that way, and then you have the secular mindset of what being famous, because people think being a pastor is like a a huge thing. Please, boy, please.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, and it's harder than a lot of these TV pastors make it seem. Uh see, for example, us. I'm gonna use us as an example because we're us. Um our ministries just started two years ago, and while these mega churches have um a pastoral team under them where they have associate pastor and other stuff. You know, we don't have that. Yet. Yeah, I was gonna say eventually we're gonna get to that point as well, because it's very necessary with the type of work that a pastor does. But you you bought a pedestal, and I think that um there are a lot of people that you can just tell by discernment, they like, man, they like that attention, they like that type of attention. Um, one of the hardest things for me to do was starting to preach because I used to rap and I did it for attention. So when it came to preaching, I always wanted to keep a humble heart like God. I don't want nobody to, you know, put me up there, like, oh man, the way you preach, the way you preach, the way you preach is good, is good. And, you know, because you like to hear that, because you put in a lot of work for these sermons, guys. These sermons, you know, these things gotta make sense. You know, you you gotta have the right bullet points, the context, the explanation gotta be on point. But anyway, back to the perfect pastor. A lot of these people like that pedestal that people put them in. And back to what you said again, babe, the groupie thing, I've seen this, and it's almost it's cringe, right? Because it's like you know what you're doing, but is it that you're blind to what you're doing or you just don't care how you look right now?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Because this man or this woman is before you and you look up to them like look, I I don't have a problem with us looking up to people. People should inspire people.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_06

You should get inspiration from somebody. My wife brought up The Rock. He inspires me. He's inspired me since I was little. If I wasn't, if I wasn't, if I did not become a Dwayne The Rock Johnson fan, I wouldn't have the I wouldn't be the way I am. And this sounds crazy, but it's because I saw another man of color, confident, yeah, cool, and everybody liked him, I said, man, if he can be cool, I could be cool. You know what else? We almost end up worshiping these people.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we do.

SPEAKER_06

And that's a very scary area because again, if you don't know, right, if you don't know you're on that fine line, you're worshiping and you have the slightest clue.

SPEAKER_02

Yep. I mean, and I I do believe that pastors, or not even just pastors, anybody in ministry, they need to be held at a higher standard. Yeah, right. But um people treat pastors or people in ministry, evangelists, missionaries, whatever whatever it is that you're calling is, like you're this floating cloud that does absolutely nothing wrong, right? Like as pastors, yes, I need to be held at a higher standard. No, I can't be out there cutting up, right? And and doing things. Why? Because I have to be the example, right? Right? But me telling you that I'm struggling is being the example.

SPEAKER_05

That's right.

SPEAKER_02

Because the Bible says that we're gonna fight temptation. It doesn't say that it doesn't say that temptation is not gonna come. It says resist and the devil will flee, which means what? He's gonna come.

SPEAKER_06

He's gonna come.

SPEAKER_02

Right?

SPEAKER_06

So he ain't gonna stop either.

SPEAKER_02

Right. So we think that pastors or people in ministry need to be perfect. No, they need to be real.

SPEAKER_06

That also reminded me of how people feel they need to be perfect to come to Christ.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, that part.

SPEAKER_06

Where they're like, nah, man, I'm good, but as soon as I get this stuff fixed, bro, I'm gonna start going to church. And it's like, bro, you're gonna the enemy is gonna keep you in that same vicious cycle, repeating the same things, keeping you bound to the just there.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_06

I'm just there. When I get this last step, I'm I'm doing I'm doing God. I'm serving God all the way. That that reminded me of that too.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. That you said that I saw a video um this week, and I loved that this pastor said this. I don't remember who it was, but he said, um, if a homosexual comes here and and accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior Savior, he said, they're walking out of here still gay.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, that's so good. That's so true.

SPEAKER_02

Listen to that. He said, he said, but you know what? They're gonna come, we're gonna keep loving on them, we're gonna keep doing what we do because the person that's gonna change them is the Holy Spirit.

SPEAKER_05

That's it.

SPEAKER_02

And and that's the thing. Do we agree with your lifestyle? No. Are we gonna reject you? No. You know what I'm saying? Like, and so those are the things, like, regardless of what it is that you feel is is is um in the way of you coming to Christ, it doesn't matter. Because at the end of the day, it's not my job to change you, right? Right? The Holy Spirit's gonna do his job, and for some people, it might take a little bit longer, right? Like Jackie Perry talks all the time about how she still is tempted, right? She was gay, right? And she's married now, she's pastoring, she has a husband, she got kids, and she still fights temptation.

SPEAKER_03

Right, right, right.

SPEAKER_02

So that's the misconception that when you come to Christ, you're gonna not have any desire to nothing. Psych.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, this just hit me. I feel that there's a another side to this. So there's this putting pastors in pedestals, but then there's putting pastors in pedestals when everybody knows they're flawed. Like, oh nah. He's an amazing, he's the best pastor ever, he's the greatest pastor ever. Why? Because he's real. That's a there's another side to that too, because that reminds me of her. Uh I know that people look at it like, yo, she's so real. That's why, yo, the the way God uses, and and for me, there's a gray a line there where people don't know they're crossing, and they start to label these people perfect when they're imperfect and they're flawed and they struggle just like us. So to take it that way too is something that just hit me.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I was watching a video, uh, I forget his name on TikTok, and he was like Pastor Lester Keones. No, he said, I'm sorry to tell you, but uh what's his name? This pastor that's so popular now, Philip Anthony Mitchell. Uh-huh. He said, I'm sorry, but Pastor Philip Anthony Mitchell is not your pastor if you watch him online.

SPEAKER_06

No, that's facts.

SPEAKER_02

But it's true. It's true. What is what is the role of a pastor?

SPEAKER_06

Right.

SPEAKER_02

What is the role of a past? I'm asking. What is the role of a pastor?

SPEAKER_06

Shepherd.

SPEAKER_02

How can you shepherd someone online?

SPEAKER_06

You can't shepherd a uh a social.

SPEAKER_02

I guarantee you not one of them people talked to Philip Anthony Mitchell a day in their life and be like, that's my pastor.

SPEAKER_06

If y'all know how you can shepherd online, I'll close this place. You let me know how that works, and if it works, we're ready. Now you can't call somebody now, now, now. Well, when we went through COVID, I I would I I still wouldn't say, like, that's my pastor. We were put in a in a yeah, that was a a different situation.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it was a different situation. But the role of a pastor is to guide you, right? Right? Is to make sure that you're like think of it in in the worldly view, how Jesus portrayed it, right? The shepherd and sheep.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Right? And so how are you going to be able to shepherd sheep that you don't have intimacy with?

SPEAKER_05

Right. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

You know what I'm saying? Like, and another thing is that we're supposed to to help you raise up, right? Um, um, encourage you, lift you up, teach you, and send you out.

SPEAKER_05

Right.

SPEAKER_02

Like you ain't supposed to be sitting here heating up chairs for 25 years singing the same songs. Like, nah, bro, go do what you gotta do. Like, the fact that there's so many churches with the same members sitting in the same seat for years and years and years, and you're not doing nothing.

SPEAKER_06

That's concerning. And if and if you don't think it's concerning, then you need to analyze where your pastor is. Where your brain is. You need to, you need to study. Um, I'm I I'll tell you this. I feel like a lot of pastors manipulate their congregation and keep certain people in those chairs for those 25 years because of them tithes.

SPEAKER_00

Tithes is good.

SPEAKER_06

Let's be real. If we're gonna talk about it, we're gonna talk about it all the way. I feel like some pastors manipulate their members, especially the good tithers, the ones who have the six-figure jobs. They manipulate them to keep them here. Nah, bro. Uh my wife and I were adamant on bro, you got a calling, what is it? We're gonna disciple you. I, whenever God says it's time to go, you go out there and you go do your thing. Yeah. If you want to come visit, visit. But hey, we have to disciple people.

SPEAKER_02

That's what Jesus did. Yeah. He discipled them and he was like, bye.

SPEAKER_06

He discipled them and then sent them. So it's the same way with pastors. So the the to to find, so you're not gonna find the perfect pastor, too. Don't don't think, oh, I'm not, I don't go to church. Why? I haven't found a perfect pastor. Well, good luck.

SPEAKER_02

Right. Or the perfect church.

SPEAKER_06

Or the perfect church. That's another thing. My God. There ain't no such thing as perfect church. There ain't no such thing as perfect pastors. There's no such thing as a perfect person.

SPEAKER_02

So, Bear, I have a question.

SPEAKER_06

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

How do you think a pastor can admit that they're struggling without losing the confidence, without people losing the confidence in them from a pastor's standpoint? So, how can you still be real without people being like, you're too real? Like now you're too much.

SPEAKER_06

It's hard. Personally, for me, it's hard to find that because if you know me, you know I'm very silly. I always play around, I always like to joke around and stuff. So it's difficult to find that area where it's like, am I being too real? I've also had some conversations where I'm not saying stuff like that as a joke, but I'm being serious and I'm being me, but the person looks at me like I don't know about that. One day I was preaching, and when I finished preaching, somebody from the congregation comes up to me and says, Pastor, I would never share something like that. And I'm like, I'm too real for them. You know, I'm too real for them. Eventually they're gonna get with the program and see that this is not, I'm not doing it to stand out. I'm doing it because God told me to be transparent.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_06

So yeah, the I I can I I don't know if I answered the question. I think I just testified something.

SPEAKER_02

But yeah, I mean you kind of answered it. But for me, um because I'm out my question is when you're struggling. And I I think you do a great job. I mean, we both do um a great job at being honest, right? Like this is what I'm struggling with, and I'm telling you that I'm struggling with it. Because I'm not perfect. Right. And our struggles are not nothing crazy. Like we, you know, for example, when your mom passed away, right? You still preached that Sunday. Yeah. And you stopped and you took a moment and you were like, guys, I'm struggling right now. I'm grieving. Right. Like those are emotions that you're entitled to have. Right. Right. But when we have the expectation of a perfect pastor or someone who's portraying a perfect pastor, they would have been up there like, glory to God. My mom is in glory this morning. Like, you know, deep down inside you want to throw yourself on the floor and cry. You see what I'm saying? Yeah. And so, you know, it's there comes, there comes a point where as a pastor, you get tired of being fake. You get you get tired of having to filter yourself because of what will they say? What are they gonna think?

SPEAKER_06

And you know what made what that makes me think of too, babe? When you when you see one go from religious to the other side, but it's extreme here and an extreme over there. There's no middle. There's no middle where where we're where where we should be. We should live balanced lives, right? In all aspects of our life, everything should be balanced. And when you take a religious leader who's been put on a pedestal, he gets tired of the being perfect. Of being perfect, of playing perfect. Man, I struggle just like them. People come to me and ask me, how could I let go of this struggle? And then he tells them how, but then goes back home with that same struggle that he's struggling with. You know? So it's kind of like I'm helping them, but no one's helping me. Eventually you're gonna get tired. And when you get tired, bro, you go to the some of them, right? They go to the other fool extreme. Now they're on all the way on the other side to where it they don't even look the same. Of course, there's nothing wrong with that, but uh there's just levels to this.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's kind of like a kid. All right, yeah. When you have a kid that you've secluded for so long and now they go to college, it's one of two things is gonna happen. Either they're gonna taste a little bit of freedom or they're gonna go buck wild. Right. Right. And start getting drunk and doing all the things, right? So as a pastor, we also have had to learn who we can and can't be ourselves in front of.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Right? Because there's one thing to be real, like we're real people. Like whatever we're struggling with, whatever we're dealing with, um, you know, we're gonna share that with you. If you come to us for counseling, we're gonna say, hey, we went through blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. This is how we got through it.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_02

You know what I'm saying? Like, I think that's why a lot of people also don't feel comfortable going to their pastors because they're gonna think, they think, oh, my pastor can't relate. You know, like my pastor doesn't understand what I'm going through because they're perfect. Right. Right. And so we've always been open about our testimony, about where we have come from, what we've been through in our life, and things like that. But I promise you, if you think you know me, you don't. You know the version of me that I allow you to see.

SPEAKER_06

Right.

SPEAKER_02

And that's not being fake.

SPEAKER_06

No, I was about to say, But some people can't handle it. Yeah, yeah. You with being transparent pastors like we are, we've learned in ministry now that there's still a limit to your transparency.

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_06

You and and at first, for me, it started feeling like Dak, but I'm being fake, I'm gonna just go all the way. But then I realized, nah, because not everybody understands you. Not everybody's gonna get it. Not everybody's gonna understand where God took you out of, not everybody's gonna understand why you're still struggling with something, and then you you stand up and preach a sermon, they're not gonna get it. They're not gonna get why you still post up reels, why you still talk to people, why you still counsel people. If you're struggling, they're not going to get it. They a lot of people have this misunderstanding about a pastor that a pastor has to be untouched and has to be sin free in order to help you and walk you through your sins. No. What makes a pastor good, right, is that they're transparent, but they can walk you through your sin because they're walking through sin.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_06

They're walking through, I'm sorry, they're not walking through sin, they're walking through struggles. They're walking through struggles, they're walking through temptations as well. And I think if you take your pastor, whoever that is, off that pedestal you got him in, and you view him the way you view yourself, you'll be able to relate to him more than you think.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and you'll have more mercy and grace with them.

SPEAKER_06

And then you'll understand when he gets out of pocket a little bit in his sermon. Maybe he feels in some type of way that day. And then you'll understand when there's a there's a function and he says something that, man, pastor shouldn't say that though.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god, I hate when people say that. Like you say something and they're like, excuse me. Like you say something and they're like, Oh, you're a pastor. You shouldn't say that. Can I take this hat off? Like, yeah, I I hate that. Like, I have to be pastor everywhere I go. Why? Yeah, why I can't be loose. Yeah, you know what I'm saying? Like I even my friends, like our friends that we have, we have another set of friends that are pastors, and we were chilling with them, and they're like, oh, Patora, and I'm like, call me loose. Like, please don't. Like, we ain't in church. You know what I'm saying? But that's something that it's like, let me let me take this off because when you have that hat of pastor on, you'll again, you almost feel like you have to be a certain way. Yeah, you know what I'm saying? And so it's it's hard to be in the world, meaning outside and and in the grocery store at Walmart, and and you know what I'm saying? Like, why can't just be me outside? Yeah, it's why do I have to be holy?

SPEAKER_06

Like, when we say, yo, less today. Today, I don't mean less for a few hours. Less today. I'm less today. I'm not pastor, right? I'm less today. The whole day I just want to be with my wife, my kids. I don't want to do anything that has to do with pastoring or put the label on because guys, I I was speaking to someone also this week, last week, and they told me they they admire the fact that I've taken on this responsibility of the calling. And I thought that was so cool because it's like, yeah, if you see how heavy it is from the outside, imagine carrying this.

SPEAKER_02

And that's what people don't understand.

SPEAKER_06

Being in it, and that's the thing they don't understand. So back to what you said, you'll be able to understand them. When you take them off the pedestal, you'll be able to be more graceful with them. Like, wow, they are a human being. They're not perfect, they're like me. I can't like I can treat him good, or I can talk sports with him.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my gosh, people think that because you're a pastor, they only could talk about the Bible with you.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, don't make me talk.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I I hate when I meet other believers, and the moment they find out that you're a pastor, it's like, well, in the book of John, I don't I'm sorry, but I already did my Bible reading and studying for today. Can we talk about something else?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, let's talk about it. We talk about something cool. It's not that the Bible ain't cool, man. Right, but it's wrong choice of words.

SPEAKER_02

The expectation that every time that everything you want to talk about is the Bible.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, and that's uh um we you guys, not you guys, people need to understand we're normal.

SPEAKER_00

Right. We like sports.

SPEAKER_06

We like sports.

SPEAKER_00

We watched Pastor watches wrestling.

SPEAKER_06

I watch wrestling. I'm a super WWE.

SPEAKER_00

He plays PS5.

SPEAKER_06

I play my PS5, I nap. I nap random times, like a cat. I'm like a cat, bro. Oh my god. I nap anywhere, it doesn't matter where I go. If I'm tired, I'm going to sleep. How many times I went to the movies and went to sleep? I love it. I paid money for the ticket, and she'd be like, You're gonna go to sleep. I'd be like, Well, if it happens, it happens.

SPEAKER_02

It's like 90% chance that. Right.

SPEAKER_06

It's a 90% chance that I'm going to sleep.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, that's so funny. But when we look at the Bible, there were so many people in the Bible that weren't perfect. You know, like Moses.

SPEAKER_05

Right.

SPEAKER_02

Right? David, David was David had somebody murdered, David stole wives, David was cutting up. You know what I'm saying? Like Peter denied Jesus. Um, you know, it's nobody's perfect.

SPEAKER_06

And if we stay on David, David was like that after he received this kingship.

SPEAKER_02

And he still loved God though. Read the book of Psalms. A lot of the Psalms are were written in the. So to wrap it up, let's do some uh quick questions. What's the one thing people misunderstand about pastors? In your opinion.

SPEAKER_06

One thing people misunderstand about pastors. I'm gonna just go back to say from my experience, especially recently, that they're normal. They're normal human beings. They they need to understand that they're not pastors 24-7. That they have families, they have a wood a job. That's what I would say.

SPEAKER_02

I agree with what you're saying, but I also think that um people also misunderstand how much commitment we have to have towards them. Right? And so we have a family. Yeah, we have kids, we're married. Right, right. You know what I mean? And so, and I'm not saying that every member is like that, because honestly, we're so blessed at our church that you know they're understanding. Yes, you know what I mean? But there's some people think of yourself when you first started church, and you talk about it all the time, how you used to drive pastor crazy, right? And um, you know, so understand that we have a life outside of being pastors. Yes, you know what I'm saying? Um, another question. So, what's something that people expect that surprises you?

SPEAKER_06

Expect from me?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Like something that somebody expected from you, and you was like, oh. I don't think I've You can't think of it.

SPEAKER_06

I don't think I ran into something like that yet.

SPEAKER_02

I don't think I have either. Alright, next question.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, that's a good one to go back to though.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I I would agree though. Something that surprises me, I don't think we've had anything surprise us. Not yet. Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

We'll get back to you guys.

SPEAKER_02

If it happens. Alright, and I'll I'll do this one and we'll finish with this. What hurts pastors the most?

SPEAKER_06

Oh from my experience, what hurts me the most right now as a pastor is I'll answer first why you think.

SPEAKER_02

So for me, what hurts me the most as a pastor is the fact that people don't understand boundaries, right? And so I can't I can't fix how you view me. You see what I'm saying? And so, no, I'm not gonna be everybody's friend. I'm gonna be your pastor, but I'm not gonna be your friend. Why? Because as we've established, some people can't handle friend loose. Yeah, yeah. Right? And it and and it's that that same spirit of fam familiarity, right? Like, oh, that's the same pastor that preaches on Sunday, that sings worship, right? And so some people can't separate that, yeah, yeah. And so that's something that hurts me, is that people judge me or how I am with their assumptions, right? And so because I don't do something how they expect me to do it, now I'm viewed a certain way. Right. Right. But if you were to ask me, and you know that I'm a very open book, like be be straight up, ask me. Whatever it is, like if you if I'm doing something that you feel like is out of order or whatever the case is, like, talk to me about it. Because there's a reason, yeah, right. But I think that that's one thing that hurts me is the fact that people assume they assume that you act that way for whatever reason. They assume that that you having a bad day, and you know that I have a super serious face. So for me specifically, knowing who I am and how I am, that's an assumption that I get a lot. She's mad, she's unapproachable, you know, all the things. But then you talk to me and you're like, oh, she's a hot mess, just like me. Right? But if you if you don't talk to me, you're not gonna know.

SPEAKER_06

I agree. I I'm gonna have to go with your answer. I I couldn't think of it. No, but when you said it, it makes sense. I I I live that too. Yeah. I know what you mean.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. So with that being said, we are not the perfect pastors.

SPEAKER_06

Nor will we ever be.

SPEAKER_02

You will never find the perfect pastors.

SPEAKER_06

No, you will not.

SPEAKER_02

Because the only perfect thing in this world is Jesus. Come on. Right? And so put that man or woman off that pedestal, please.
