What are young pastors really going through?

In this episode of Talking with Purpose, we are joined with Pastor Angel and Natassja Castro. We have an honest conversation about the realities of ministry that often go unseen. From the pain of carrying the weight of leadership to the pressure of meeting everyone’s expectations, we discuss the challenges many young pastors face behind the scenes.

We talk about:

• The emotional and spiritual pain that can come with ministry

• Why delegation is essential for healthy leadership

• The danger of trying to fit other people’s standards instead of following God’s calling

• Finding your identity in Christ rather than in ministry success

Whether you’re a pastor, ministry leader, volunteer, or someone who wants to better understand the people leading the church, this conversation offers encouragement, wisdom, and practical insight.

Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and share this episode with someone who serves in ministry.

SPEAKER_00

What's up everybody? Welcome back to Talking with Purpose. Hallelujah. And today we have two special guests with us, right? We have the Pastors Castros. Yes, the Pastors Castros. That sounds good. That's really good. There you go. There you go. They came and joined us this weekend for our two-year ministry anniversary. Churchaversary. Church adversary. So PSN. For our anniversary, man, and it was an amazing service. God really glorified Himself. And catch the reading. Again, we want to thank you. Thank you guys for really joining us this weekend. It's special for us. And babe, you got something to say? Tirai.

SPEAKER_04

You forgot something.

SPEAKER_00

I go, tirah.

SPEAKER_04

No, you forgot something.

SPEAKER_00

I'm sorry. And also with my beautiful wife.

SPEAKER_04

Oh.

SPEAKER_00

Pastor Luz Kinones. Who I love with all my heart. She's really beautiful, y'all. Oh gosh. Okay, anyway.

SPEAKER_02

By the way, the camera does no justice because you are beautiful. Thank you. You two girls.

SPEAKER_00

Oh gosh, I can't. Um, so today we have a good topic that we want to talk about. Yes. Um, we want to talk about being young and being in ministry. Yes. I um in here before you right now are two groups of pastors, right? We have myself and my wife and the Castros. We are all young and we are in ministry. Yes. Um, I want to start with a question to Pastor Castro. Yes, sir. That's making it. I've known you for many years, right? Um, don't say how many because then they'll know how many people know the age, right? Yeah, no, no, no.

SPEAKER_01

They know that we're young, so that's all that matters.

SPEAKER_00

Right, that's it. We're young and that's it. Um, but one thing I've always admired about you was how you've stayed the course. Yes. You know, because we grew up in the same church. Your father was my pastor growing up, so I've known you for many years. And one thing of watching you from afar, I was like, man, he inspires me because he always stood in the walk and always stood doing something. My question to you is this how did you do it? Because you knew how we grew up. How did you maintain yourself still serving the Lord?

SPEAKER_01

You know, it's uh first and foremost, full circle moment, right? Yes. Because, like Pastor Les has said, right, my father was his pastor for a few years, and then here you are now pastoring out here in Ohio. Uh, and then we're here, right, for the church's anniversary and full circle moment. Uh, but to answer your question, um, and I don't think I've ever mentioned this to you before, uh, because you're probably wondering his consistency with with his relationship with God, with God, with ministry, with his passion. And um it all it all pins point back to why should I give up on someone who never gave up on me?

SPEAKER_00

That's good.

SPEAKER_01

And then I think about Jesus with the cross, right? Having every reason to just let the cross go.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_01

And say, you know what, God, I'm gonna take you, you know, for Father, I'm gonna take you up on your offer. Why don't you send down those angels? Let me just go back to heaven. Because I'm not about this, I'm not doing this. But he stood the course for us, right? For humanity, for salvation. So that's how I take my my approach. Everything that I do is for God and his kingdom.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_01

So that's what has allowed me for all of these years to stay the course and be consistent in ministry. Because why should I quit on someone who never quit on me?

SPEAKER_00

Amen. And that's a great answer. And it it's it's crazy because you started evangelizing at 14.

SPEAKER_01

14. I was a high school freshman going into my sophomore year of high school. I'm still young, by the way. Right, right. Young and in ministry. Young and in ministry. But I was a I was a high school freshman going into my sophomore year. Wow.

SPEAKER_00

To stay that consistent and strong. But your reason for it, it really gives it for me, it clarifies like, oh, that that makes sense. Yes.

SPEAKER_04

But it also it also shows that your relationship was built on intimacy. Yes, like your relationship was wasn't built off of your father, right? Being a pastor, it was intimate because when you don't have a personal relationship with God, it's easy for you to walk away.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_04

Because you don't know, like you don't know what you're missing, because you really don't have it. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_02

You have to be rooted, and your identity has to be clear as to who you are in Christ, through Christ. Yeah, right.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, and um um what what I what I also like too, bro, is um how I I look back and I remember seeing you starting your ministry, Evangelita, and then that was big for me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, I'm not saying it because you're here, like literally, you always inspired me my whole life as we were growing up. Because I'm like, he all how he always stood. So then I'm looking. I'm out of the church. My brother, my sister, we're all out.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um, our cousins that we went to the church, we were all out, and you were the only one that actually branched out and did what God called you to do. So for me, it was like, that's where I need to be. I don't even know how to start to get there, though. Yeah, you know, because yeah, yeah. It's kind of like you start to desire God when you backslide, yeah, and then it's like, but how do I get there? I don't know if you haven't been through that, right? Where you be like, okay, I know I need to get there, but what's the first step I need to take?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because you feel like you're too far gone. Yeah, like I'm too far gone. How do I even start crawling and inching my way back to this thing that I want to do with the serving God? And let me listen, by all no means I think we spoke about this uh I think yesterday when we went out to eat. It wasn't like, hey, sign me up for ministry. Right. Hey, sign me up, hey, sign me up for pastorship. Sign me up to be this. You know, by all me, and you know, I hear people, I I want to, you know, they're like, they're they this is what they want to do. And I'm like, you sure you said what you want to do? Like, so we didn't have a sign-up sheet, you know, to say, you know, but God, through his grace and mercy, you know, has called us for a time, right? Just like you know, such as this. Right.

SPEAKER_00

You know, so and and now uh now going into this stage of your ministry, right? Because now you started young being an evangelist, now you're a young pastor. Yes. And this area is where I can relate to now, yes, right? Being a young pastor. Um we started this church independently um two years ago. Um nobody believed in us, bro.

SPEAKER_01

I I can back.

SPEAKER_00

In New Jersey, yes, I'm talking about you. Yeah, and we're from there too, so it's all good. You know who you are, because you probably watch, and if you don't, I'll send it to you.

SPEAKER_02

Your validation, listen, your validation comes from the Lord. Right, I send them the link. Right, send them the link, right?

SPEAKER_00

But um, they didn't. Yeah, they didn't, they didn't, man. I I was I I was told by so many people, hey, do this with him, and they didn't do it. And I remember feeling like, bro. So I'm gonna tell you the truth, because this is how I felt. Did God lie or they're just not listening? Because it was so secluded, I was so uh set aside that I'm like, is this real? Not not my walk of faith, my you know, my identity was already in Christ, and I knew that. But when it came to the calling, I was like, is this real or or they just don't want to? Like, what's the issue? The Lord revealed to me with one of them that it was jealousy, that's okay. That they wanted to keep us down and not have us progress.

SPEAKER_04

And a lot of people didn't believe in us, like I think it was because of what they saw, right? And it's like someone said to me, I think we were about a year, almost a year, that we were pastoring. And they were like, um, they were like, Oh, so what made you want to be a pastor? And I'm like, blink, blink, like who again, right? Who no one desires I'm I mean, people desire it because there are people that want it, but it for the wrong reasons, right? Like their heart is in whatever you think a pastor is, right? And so no one handed us keys, right? Like you were preaching about yesterday. Nobody handed us keys with a full church, right? That had money, right? Like everything, yes, everything literally came from our pockets, you know what I'm saying? Until God started to bring people and like they don't know the tears, and you don't know the struggles of what it is like to preach to empty chairs and to your own family, absolutely. And how many times would you be like, you know what, babe, let's just pray and then go home? And I'm like, No, we're gonna preach and you're we're gonna post it.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, we would have a whole service, it makes me want to cry. It makes me want to cry. This is about to make me cry.

SPEAKER_01

I did not know this. Yeah. Oh, dude. No, I probably would have been doing the same thing, and she's probably like, no, we're gonna stay here, right?

SPEAKER_00

But I'm gonna get into it real quick. We walked in that day. My heart. So service time started, guys.

SPEAKER_04

Nobody's there.

SPEAKER_00

Me, my wife, and the girls, and the two girls. My boys, my boys didn't come. Excuse me. Oh my god. Now I'm like, hi, man. I'm I'm discouraged, bro. I'm like, we did a meditation. I felt like I did everything correct. You know what I mean? I'm like, I looked at her and she was sitting there, and I was already on the altar, and I'm like, let's just pray and let's go home, please. And I'm I'm teary, I'm like, I don't want to do this. I don't want to do this. You know? And she's like, no, babe, go preach. Give that word. Because I was excited that day for this word.

SPEAKER_04

He was like, Let me get my napkin. Hold on. No, no, no, it's fine. I'm sorry, guys.

SPEAKER_01

This is living and living. Yeah. Yeah, but bro, so I don't know.

SPEAKER_04

Can you make sure that I press record? I don't know why. I feel like I ain't pressing.

SPEAKER_02

Listen, um the Lord Can you imagine?

SPEAKER_04

Bro, it happens. That's why I say it.

SPEAKER_00

So, yeah, right. And the word, you know, you know how it is, Pastor. You get that word, you're like, oh, this is this is a good one. This is gonna help the people that are here.

SPEAKER_04

And you said, like, you you were like, I there were he was like, you don't know how much I put into this week for this word. He was like, and nobody's gonna receive it. And I said to him, I was like, you're gonna preach, and we're gonna post this on YouTube, and you're gonna preach like everybody's watching. And that's that's what he did.

SPEAKER_01

And what about if it was meant for that day for your wife and your girls to receive it?

SPEAKER_00

Right, right.

SPEAKER_01

Like, because it's like, hey, what daddy is preaching up there is what daddy lives. You know, like like your first ministry is the house, right?

SPEAKER_02

So that level of obedience. Yes, right. That's all I see. I'm crying because that's all I see.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, thank you.

SPEAKER_02

Like the letter, the level of obedience um is beyond if this place is full. Right. It's like Lord, I know what you called us to do. And if it's empty, we're gonna give it our all. If it's full, we're gonna give it our all. So he's preparing you, your character. Yes, you know, yes, and that's what I see.

SPEAKER_00

And that and and so after that day, whenever that happened again, I didn't care. Right.

SPEAKER_01

Let's go.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like I and and I didn't I didn't need to see the place full no more. Right. And and that let me let me just say that wasn't in my heart. Like, I didn't want to see the place full. I wanted somebody else other than my wife. There you go. Yeah, had it been one more person. One more person.

SPEAKER_04

Like, I he or she is gonna get this best. Because we also had Jocelyn.

SPEAKER_00

Right, yeah, you know, but she had something to do that with it.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that weekend she wasn't there. I think she was in Jersey. Yeah, she had something to do with that. And so it was just he was just like, really? Yeah. Like, and it wasn't like a month in. We're talking, we were already a few months in.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you know how when you before you cry get that lump in your throat, yeah, dude. I was like, and then I'm looking at her, I'm like, Babe, but I had the mic in my hand, and I'm like, Babe, I took the mic away. Babe, but can we just pray and get out of here? Like, this is crazy, bro. Yep, I don't want to do this, and then she was like, no, do it. So anyway, I have a real quick interruption.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, please, excuse me. How do you think Noah felt exactly why he was building that ark?

SPEAKER_00

That's good.

SPEAKER_03

That's good. Everybody just and what they would they were saying. That was a long time. You just said to your wife, this is crazy.

SPEAKER_01

And what other people were saying to Noah, this is crazy. What are you like? And then you're building a boat in dry land, right? Not next to waters, and then it had never rained in that.

SPEAKER_04

Right, so I didn't even know what a boat was.

SPEAKER_01

Right. Like, let's go. Let's get yo.

SPEAKER_04

Come on.

SPEAKER_01

We're preaching it. Go ahead, Pastor.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I mean the hyena. They like a boat this big. Where this going? Yeah, that was a revelation. But bro, ever since that day, um, I do this. I'm gonna let I'm gonna let y'all know. This is a secret I do. Okay. I come here at like five or six in the morning, and I preach to the seeds. Wow. So you do?

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

He preaches a sermon technically twice. I preach the sermon twice. One to the Holy Spirit and the angels, and then one to the congregation.

SPEAKER_01

That's cool.

SPEAKER_00

Ever since then, that's what I've been doing. At that old place, and especially here, I come here early, bro, before everybody else. I get up, I already get up at four. He's an early bird. I'm an early bird. But when it comes to Sunday, I get up here, I come, I record it and everything, and I watch it back. Okay, okay, ahorita. But no, you know what? Go back to my notes, I'm gonna remove that, blah, blah, blah. And then when service time comes, I feel that it's that it's flawless. Yeah. But it's because I I was like, and I made a note to myself. I was like, I'm gonna preach this to empty seats for the rest of my life. I don't care how full it gets here, because I know God is gonna bless his ministry, but I want I still want it to be something of my root to remind me, like, yeah, you felt like this. But then so you're gonna so I in myself, I'm like, Les, you're gonna preach the empty seats, and then you're gonna preach the full ones on the same day. That's something that I put away.

SPEAKER_04

What I love about that specific thing or that day is that you can go back and watch all of his sermons, and I guarantee you you won't know which sermon he's talking about. Yeah, wow. You see what I'm saying? Like, there's no emotion in him that you're like, yeah, and I'm his wife, so I would know. You know what I'm saying? Um, so I would like to ask you guys, because okay, so I I just met y'all. So, you know, you've been in church your whole life, but for you, Natasha, right? You have you've been kind of in and out. How do you feel now being in ministry with someone who's been in ministry, right, for so long? Yeah, because it's for me, I would assume I would feel a little bit intimidated.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, in the b it was like in the beginning. In when I started, when we started courting each other, when we started dating, I um like I told you guys that on our first date, I literally saw the word pastor on him. And I could have yeah, I could have been on a date. On a date. Out of all things, yeah. Yeah, I could have been intimidated by that. But I'm like, no, this is because my parents are pastors. So I yeah, they're pastors in Boston. In Boston. So I I was raised like in a in a Raha church. So I've known of Christ. But I never had my encounter with him until I was like in my mid-30s. Oh wow. And then five years after that, that's when me and him started going. So my identity was rooted, is rooted in Christ. So intimidation from him, like him doing what he's doing, I never felt that. I just had um insecurities that I needed to work out with me and Christ. So it wasn't like I don't have space in his world. Like I always felt like I'm gonna compliment him. Yes. Because I know that the the father we have in heaven, he's not gonna put if he if he gave you someone to walk this life with, it's because there's something that you have that he needs. Yes. Because when he saw he made Adam, he said it's not good for men to be alone. Right. And it says in his word, he who finds a good wife finds a good wife. Yes. So nothing but boy and all. So so I was never intimidated. Yes, I had, I was like, Lord, how do how do I fit in this way? That was your yeah, that was your thing. How do I fit in? Like, how do I fit? Because my in my world, what I operated under my gifts and my talents, never under my anointing. But when I got with him and I started going out to minister with him, ahora different. Like now I know, okay, this is Bammalante. Like now.

SPEAKER_01

But you know what? And going into this whole thing, like how do I fit in, right? Because there's always this thing where they feel like if the man preaches, the woman has to sing. Go. Or if the woman is unpacking. Or if the woman sings, unpack it. Yeah, or if the woman is worshiping and singing, then the man has to preach. Or if they're or he preaches, then she's a preacher, or they're both two conference speakers. But then I remember somebody had once told me, this is way way before I got with my wife, they said, Listen, you don't want a pastora or a pastor in your house. You need a wife. Right? So, so then the other thing, going back to what she was saying, how do I fit into this? And we and we have this conversation in regards to ministry, but she made me see ministry more beyond that. There was one time where she challenged me and she said, All right, good, you're going out and you're preaching. Is that it? Is that what ministry is to you? And I'm like, What do you mean? She goes, expand. And that's where she brought me into the whole world of like, are you gonna write a book? Are you gonna do a YouTube channel? Are you going to do a podcast? Or like what else can we do to get the kingdom of God out there besides you going from church to church and preaching and preaching? And so she opened up my eyes to a whole new way of just doing ministry away from the altar.

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Away from the altar. That was her thing. So then that's so that's how she was able to like my wife. She's very big on fashion. She loves fashion.

SPEAKER_02

I went to school for it.

SPEAKER_01

She did, and her thing is how can I get God out there through fashion? I remember when she she she does have a business, right? So when she was sent out her at that time she was doing accessories, and she was sent out accessories, she would also put inside of the packaging a magnetic um Bible verse. And the amount of testimonies, the amount of testimonies that they were inboxing and saying, listen, I love, I love what I purchased, but I needed that Bible verse at this specific time because you had no idea what I was about to do.

SPEAKER_00

There you go. There you go.

SPEAKER_01

And that's ministry, that's preaching away from the altar.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely, absolutely.

SPEAKER_02

And I want to run it back real quick because I remember in the beginning, before, before like I really tapped into like what God wanted to do with me through me, because it's through me for his glory. Amen. Um I I used to be like, my love, like how can I like how can I be of help? Like, how can I do this? And he looked at me, he set me free. He said, I just want a wife. I want a home cooked meal, I want to have my babies, like I want a companion. And that you don't know how how you can put your wife or your partner at ease when you don't put those pressures that society or even that the own church wants you to put on your wife. Stereotypes. Stop putting so much pressure on these these uh women, on these women. Like, you don't know that with love and encouragement and you with these words you can help them tap into what it is that God wants them to do for the kingdom.

SPEAKER_01

And by yeah, and by all means, I'm not telling her, hey, since sometimes I'm looking for my wife. I when I'm doing the altar call, and I'm like, where is she? And lo and behold, she's in the corner praying for a woman, they're on the floor, they're crying, and I'm like, So I let her rock. I let her rock, I let her do her thing. Because she's very spirit, you know, driven, spirit-led. So I kind of let her do her own thing. And without me calling her, hey, can you help me pray for people at the altar call? She, I'm like, where is she? She already started. And they're pointing to me that she started before I started. Right.

SPEAKER_00

And I noticed that yesterday, as the Lord was taking you to this.

SPEAKER_01

I noticed that.

SPEAKER_02

But that wasn't always there. I've I I didn't always like allowed the Holy Spirit to flow through me. It took time and it took a husband who understood the seasons that I was in. Yes, that's good. And prayed over me if for enc for encouragement. And and and I encourage uh the husbands, the pastors, to um not only like do your due diligence with the church and and the body of Christ and but also look at your wife, understand the seasons that she's in. Pray over your wife. Yes.

SPEAKER_04

Yes. Yes. Yes. I love that. Sorry, babe. I thought he was about to say something. I love that because right, being someone who grew up in a Pentecostal church, right? Apostolic church, however you want to call it, they always have this expectation of what the pastor's wife is supposed to be, right? And even in other churches, I'm sure that it happens in other churches, but I can't talk about that because I haven't been there, right? And so you're never spiritual enough. You're never used by God enough. You don't talk the way that you're supposed to talk. You're judged and everything like that. And so it's it's so refreshing for us that we don't have right, we don't have uh a counsel, right? Like we're independent church, so I can do whatever I want. The only person that's gonna correct me is God, right? Is God or my husband if I'm really walling? But you know, as a as a woman, you know, and being a pastor's wife, it's hard. Yeah, it's hard to live up to the expectations of society, right? Of what they feel that you should be. And and and it's like you almost feel like you have to change yourself to please them, but you're never gonna please one person. Everybody's gonna have their own difference of opinion. You know what I mean? And so I love the fact that you brought that up because just because you your husband's pastoring, if you don't feel like you fit there, find where you fit. You know what I'm saying? Like me and my husband, our ministry has always been like this like we do everything together. We've that's just how we have always been. But there are some women that they don't feel like that's them. Yeah, you know, maybe you like working with children, cool, do that. You know what I'm saying? Maybe you like worshiping and singing, cool, do that. Baking, yeah, you like cooking, right? Hospitality, like you like to clean, clean the church, like as a wife of a pastor, if you don't feel like you're called to pastor, right? Because there's pastors, there's pastors' wives, and there's couples that are pastors, you know, there's difference, there's a difference. But if you don't feel like that's your calling, then do whatever you feel led to. And if you're listening and you just a church member, don't put your pastors in that position. Let them do what God is leading them to do because God ain't talking to you about that church, God is talking to the pastors about that church.

unknown

Right, right.

SPEAKER_02

That's it. I I believe, yeah, I I believe that um if this is and correct me if I'm wrong, because you you're you're good at that. No, seriously, no, because uh listen, I don't know at all. Um when when when your man is called to pastor and you're you're married to him, I believe that there is something in you that it's either there or it needs to be developed for you to rise, okay, for you to rise. I agree. I'm not saying you're gonna go and grab the mic and slay demons and deliverance and I'm not saying that's listen, but I'm saying what I'm saying is if if in we're in alignment, because how could two walk together? Yeah, right? So, whatever needs to be developed in you, allow yourself. First and foremost, there's a process, allow yourself to heal what you need to heal. If it's the spirit of fear, because even me, like to translate for him, oh my god, you my kneecaps go pop and there's kneecaps together, I have to wear baggy pants so you can't tell, but look at how freely you do it with him. Yeah, so there's women that we're not totally saying that we're not pastoras or that is that there's something in us that needs to be developed. So if I'm if if you're listening to me, bring it to the feet of Jesus and and be real with yourself and allow yourself to heal in certain areas. Because I really believe that if you're if you're married to a man that has been called as a pastor, you're you're gonna you're gonna stand alongside of him to lead the congregation to to be a helpmate. Yeah, to be a good thing. Well, let's go back to that.

SPEAKER_01

That's exactly what God wanted Eve to be for Adam in the garden. He did not put the full responsibility of running the garden on Eve. No, he put it on Adam, and then he told this the Eve, listen, you're gonna be a helpmate to him, you're gonna help him carry out the vision. But a lot of women out there suffering in silence, administering. And then I'll talk about because they're meeting the expectation of the people. And then, you know, and then listen, I'm I'm gonna open up a parenthesis here, and shame on some men and pastors who have put this the the their wives in that position, yeah, all because they're trying to appease to the crowd of the of the domin uh denomination, organization, or council. Yes, that's true. No, because let me tell you something. Once these lights turn off and everybody goes, you're going home back to her with her. And that can cause marital issues at all. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_03

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

We'll talk about that when we come back.

SPEAKER_02

Pushing them into spaces that they're not developed for.

SPEAKER_04

And the thing is too, and we talk about this a lot, is a woman's hormones and how much we change as we age, as we have children. You can't expect a a woman that just had a baby, right, to be sitting here running up and down the church and preaching and doing this and doing deliverance. Like her body is fragile.

SPEAKER_01

What about when you guys are gonna be the monthly? Right, that's not that.

SPEAKER_04

Look, I mean, I probably could rebuke a whole bunch of demons when I'm on PMS. You know what I'm saying? Because my anger is not a good thing. You know, but but it is it's true, like us men don't go through what we do. Physically, yeah, you're right, you know, and emotionally, yeah. You know what I'm saying? Like, I don't think we don't get out of here, you know. So, because of that, too, I feel like people have to have more grace with us. You know what I'm saying? Like, because we can't do it all. We can't do we do it, yes. But a woman is mom, a woman is wife, a woman is counselor, a woman is doctor, a woman is everything, everything lawyer, like you know what I'm saying? And so imagine adding on the the problems of of your members on top, like y'all think that I don't got problems, I got problems, and I gotta deal with Charles too. Not that I'm complaining because that's where we're at, right? Right, yeah, but be mindful.

SPEAKER_02

And and with time, got God is gonna bring, um, he's gonna bring you guys your your team. Amen. He's gonna bring you guys your team. So yeah. He started. He already started. He already started. Absolutely. So I encourage women that whatever area in the church you feel like you can you can function, and also a big thing me and you um and pastora were talking about yesterday was uh learning to delegate. Yes, so you don't have everything on yourself.

SPEAKER_04

We just implemented that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we just implemented that, and that has helped us whoa. Yeah, delegate, delegate so much.

SPEAKER_01

That's what the father-in-law of Moses was trying to tell Moses. He's like, hey, listen, you need a team. Learn how to delegate. Again, you know, the topic is young in ministry, and sometimes people are in ministry, they're young and they make these mistakes. They feel like they're young, they're energetic, I can take everything upon myself. And what you're gonna do is you're going to it's like a car, you're running up and down, the wear and tear is gonna come quicker than what it is. So learning how to trust, believe God, delegate, um, those are mistakes that a lot of people do when they're young in ministry. They feel like they're like a young bull, so they can take everything upon them upon themselves, and that's a problem.

SPEAKER_00

And from the outside, looking at you growing up in ministry. I was like, man, this guy's unstoppable. This guy cannot lose, he's unstoppable, he keeps going, going, going. But I got a question for you as your ministry was growing, right? Because we're talking about being in the ministry, we spoke about how people didn't believe in us. Did you run into some ministers in your life that you felt like or did did anybody really like close some doors? Yeah. Oh yeah. That's always gonna happen. And how did you manage to get through those?

SPEAKER_01

Well, you know, you know, you're always not gonna be everybody cut everybody's cup of tea. I remember specifically there was one time where I went to minister at a at a youth camp. I remember this. She knows where I'm going with this. And there was a there was a thing that they gave me. And I I I I I literally you know, right, right, right. But listen, just to be to make the long story short, I bring the message, it's a three-day camp. I go with two of my friends, and then the first day, they're they're giving me like the love, the love offering for the weekend. I'm like, oh, I appreciate this. And they asked me not to come back. Um I I don't to this every day, I don't even know what I said. No, well, because let me tell you something, it's not what I said, because every time I preach, it's what God is saying. Right? We're just his communicators.

SPEAKER_04

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

So, and I was driving home so confused. I called my mentors, and they were like, listen, you're not gonna be everybody's cup of tea. Um, but yeah, to answer your question, you know, you're always you're it's how how how did I manage with people closing the doors? And God, and everything goes back to God. God, you know, minister to me and say, Listen, when they close the door on you, it's not they're not closing it on you, they're doing they're closing it to me. So don't take it personal, don't feel no type of way. Wow, I should be feeling some type of way, God is saying, not you.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_01

Because you're just my messenger, and it looks like they have an issue with the message. But I'm giving you the message, and you're the messenger. So I don't take it personal. I've been doing this now. Uh I'm gonna turn 43 years old in a few weeks. Yep, I said my age, there you go. Uh so I've been doing this since I was 14, so now you know you do the numbers, right? 10, 20. I'm about to be uh 30, is what almost 20, 29 years in ministry. Wow. 29 years in ministry, right?

SPEAKER_04

I have a question for I guess for both of you guys. Um with because I feel like um the reason, and this goes back to delegating. Yes, I feel like the reason why a lot of pastors don't delegate is because the the the power. Wow, they don't want to give up power, right? They want to have their hand in everything. Wow. And so for us, no, I know you're not like that. It's off with it. It's not an oh but with that, right? With that being said, um, Pastor Angel, how do you because you've been in ministry since you were young, so that's definitely something that can build up in your head, like being a young person, and like let them listen to me. Not only that, but people don't know. Like, if you don't go to church, you don't know. Like when it comes to the preachers and musicians, oh, them girls be running to the altar for prayer. You know what I'm saying? So, like with all of those things, not nah, I was back in the day. Right, well, money when we go to their house, we'll do another episode. Um, but with that, I feel like those are things that can also make your ego be like, oh yeah, all the girls want me. They, you know what I'm saying? So, how have you been able to stay humble and and not have that power struggle to where you can, right, as as associate pastors, be like, I know that I can trust you to do this, and I don't got to check on you, type of thing.

SPEAKER_01

You know that you said it, I was gonna tell you. So you just I think she pastor just said it, it's the trust issue. I think there's a power issue there, but then I think there's also trusting. Like, we don't people have a hard time trusting. But here's my motto. My motto is I trust you until you give me a reason not to trust. Yes, allow the people to work the land, allow the people to be good at what they are. Yeah, right. There's some people who are good at cleaning the church, others are good at media, others are good at the sound in the church, others are good at hospitality, worshipper, right? So, one of the things I try to do is I try to figure out what are you good at? What do you have passion for? Right, right. Some people have passion for medium. So let's let them. I feel like it, I I feel like you will work your hardest if you are doing what you love to do. So if I like to do sound and the pastor or is putting me to to I don't know, do hospitality, I'm not gonna be passionate with that because that's not what I'm that's not what I'm I'm passionate about. So it's almost like make it's like a chess game. You want to make sure you are putting the correct pieces in the right places so they can flow. Now, if they get and allow them to work until they give you a reason, whatever. But also, so doing check-ins, you know? Hey, how's it going in this area? Um, is there anything that can help you with? So when so when you're when when not micromanager, right? Because micromanaging is that you're on them every single day. Right, but once a week, you're just checking on, hey, and I do it, just checking up on you. Checking up on you, not the I'm I'm gonna check on up on you, not the title you carry. Okay, you know, separation. I love that. I mean no me interesa il titolo.

SPEAKER_02

Right. I love that.

SPEAKER_01

You know, so no me interesa it. I I'm not interested in what you're doing. I'm on to I'm interested in the person who's doing what we're asking them to do. Yeah, right. Are you good? Yes, are you good? You have food, you have money, right? How's the wife? How's the kids? Right, how's the family? Yes, and that makes people want to work more. So, and me, I and then to answer the pastela's question, how do I not let it get to my head all these years? You know, my wife always says, This is about me, this is about God, not about me. Yeah, it's his kingdom, pushing his assignment, his kingdom.

SPEAKER_02

His bride. Yeah, we're just we're just here to wash her feet. Yeah, right. Yeah, that's it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and and then I remember I had mentioned something I said, oh she got my wife started. Yeah, but when it comes to you know, all of these whatever groupies, like sometimes, groupies, my wife, I'm sometimes not even sometimes, all the times. My wife was like, Did you? And I'm like, no. Did you see this? And sometimes she's like, This king is so I am so focused on my assignment.

SPEAKER_02

He's so focused. He's so excited.

SPEAKER_01

I don't even realize I didn't even realize what she's doing. You don't realize nothing. But maybe that's why I need you next to me, so then you can be the one who's gonna touch on your back. Like, yeah. But I like my thing is this, right? Before I'm worried of failing my wife, I don't want to fail God. Yeah, that's right. You know that in a split moment, man, I wish we had time. In a split moment, you can bring down in five seconds what took 15 years to build.

SPEAKER_03

Yes. Wow.

SPEAKER_01

Don't let a don't let a moment of pleasure destroy purpose. I'm gonna say that again. Don't let a moment of pleasure destroy purpose. So I know that I have purpose here. So I before I try to find my wife, I'm trying to make sure I'm not failing God. And that's what has kept that has kept me grounded. When my wife met me, she knew I was single for five, six years. And it was just me and and uh myself and I, and at that time a three, four-year-old boy. I was so focused on what I was doing.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, so and he could have been doing being a hot mess, but he wasn't. He kept himself a la commida. I didn't have to answer to nobody. Right. But somebody was looking at me, which is God.

SPEAKER_01

That's what it comes down to. That we want to hide from man. Don't worry about that. You can. Yeah, I think. But God is looking over it.

SPEAKER_00

I'm sorry, and I think that the reason why I admire you so much is the integrity that you have.

SPEAKER_01

To God be the glory, man.

SPEAKER_00

You know, for the that that you you keep yourself together because of the core is Christ. You know, he is your core, and I can see that, you know, and because not only the years you've been in the ministry, but just how you speak and the things you say. It's kind of like, no, remember, guys, this is Christ. Yeah, it's centered in him. Yeah, I'm like this, I think like this because of him. And I think that's an important thing for a young pastor to learn.

SPEAKER_01

Come on.

SPEAKER_00

A young pastor needs to learn and remember, like you said, they feel like they can take on everything. You know, they can do all the titles in the in the in the world, yeah. And and and it's like, no, I don't need a leader of of um of youth. I I'll be the leader of your youth. Yeah, but you're also pastoring. So how can you do those things at once? How can you do those two things at once? Now you can probably manage it. For a season for a season.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so someone is capable enough to take the reins of the thing.

SPEAKER_02

So they develop that person, exactly.

SPEAKER_00

So and that's another thing, Batora. Uh-huh. Developing. This is why we've learned to delegate. Yeah. Because we're like, okay, maybe someone here it hasn't, but it hasn't been developed. So we, as the pastors, are going to help them see. Hey, look, this is what we see. Let's mentor them, develop them. Let's take all these layers off the top. I need you to see that you're fire in this area. Yeah, yeah. Look, here you go.

SPEAKER_01

But that's biblical.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. That's what they they didn't do for you. Exactly. And now you're doing it for us.

SPEAKER_04

There you go. And that's there you go. And that's that's the core of our ministry. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Like that's confirmation because that's what we do. That's why we do it like this.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Like people don't understand. For example, we have something that we it's called speakers in training. And so we're we're teaching people.

SPEAKER_01

We're gonna have to take this.

SPEAKER_04

We're teaching people how to preach. So we're giving them the opportunity, the platform that's not on the Sunday, right? Because if you say something crazy, now I gotta be able to do that.

SPEAKER_01

No, it has to be something. Yeah, yeah. I agree with that.

SPEAKER_04

You know, so you know, we're that's what we're doing, and and the fact that people want to, yeah, right? Like you have mega churches, and I ain't throwing shade. I'm just saying, how many pastors, how many evangelists, how many teachers, how many people are sitting, heating up chairs in a church of 500, a thousand people, and you don't even know.

SPEAKER_01

Come on now, right?

SPEAKER_04

And so you're not doing what God called you to do because other people don't see it. You know what I'm saying? And so for us, like the core of Inspire Church, and we tell this to everybody that comes here we're gonna build you up and you gonna go. Oh, you a pastor? Okay, you want to move out of state? Bet that by Florida. Inspired church in Florida, right?

SPEAKER_02

Like, because it's expensive, and I'll and real quick. We send them out two by two. I wanted to tell you this yes, yesterday. You were preaching, you kept on saying Inspire Church Ohio.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I was kind of like specifying Ohio.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, because our n we're inspired church, yeah. Because other branches, you know what I'm saying? Okay, go, keep going. Yeah, uh-huh.

SPEAKER_04

So, you know, that's the core of our of our ministry is building up people, you know, because one thing that I say is like you don't know until you do it, right? Like, don't tell me somebody can't. Like, you know, if I tell you, oh, I want to put I want to put um Natasha to lead the kids, and you'd be like, no, she's not good at that. Who said? Yeah, you know what I'm saying? Like we we be like, no, they're not good at that, right? And God is like, yeah, they are. Like, I equip them.

SPEAKER_01

And then how do we know how do we know until they don't trust? Until they try to do that. Exactly. Yeah, you might who know? They might they they might exceed expectations. Exactly, exactly.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. That's what we believe in. It's like, no, you're called. What what what did you call what did God call you to do? God called me to do this. Okay, we put it in prayer. Confirmation, right? You just can't be like, oh, do you get usel patto? You know, do get a cell or tanyama. Um telling you we're different, man. It's crazy. But different on purpose. But it's helped you on purpose. Right.

SPEAKER_02

Everything on purpose. We don't have a purpose.

SPEAKER_00

And it's helped us so much to be able to prepare the people that God brings here. So a little bit more about speakers and training. So what we do is we give them a chance, they flow. Then they get a call from me, and I'm like, all right, this is what happened. This and this, yes. Eliminate this. You did this a lot. We me and you were touching. We spoke about this yesterday. Yesterday. So with him in particular, yeah, I had that conversation. He hasn't done it yet. But I had a conversation. These are things you watch out for. Right. Right? Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

When you play the tape, and something we're adding, which we haven't added yet, is the extra class of how to lay out a sermon. Yeah, yeah. How do you how do you study the Bible? Like, so that's something. We just asked that yesterday. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Well, what did you what is how do you do it? And you know, I said, okay, this is one of the ways of doing it. There's several ways of doing it. Yes. But me and more is more introduction, three points, conclusion. That's it. You know, and that that's how I've always worked. And a whole lot of Holy Spirit. Right, right. But again, this is it's it's it's not and what you guys are doing is preparing the next generation, leading the next. It's biblical. Yes. You know, Moses did it with Joshua, right? Elijah with Elijah, Jesus with his disciples. Jesus even said, Listen, I'm leaving. Yes. You guys gotta get this now.

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

You know, we talked about it. Yeah, we gotta get it now. So it it's it's it's part of learning how to delegate. Even Jesus delegated the the Last Supper. He sent his disciples, he told one to get the food, he told one to find the place where we're gonna be eating at. He was delegating. Yeah. Well, he was just with Jesus.

SPEAKER_04

Yes. So and and then people wonder who got it all, yeah. People wonder why pastors are burnt out, yeah, why pastors commit suicide. Like, let's talk about it, right? Because you don't let nobody do nothing. Like, I'm the only one that can pray for people, I'm the only one that can teach, I'm the only one that can preach. Like, Pastor Les doesn't preach here every Sunday.

unknown

Thank God.

SPEAKER_01

And that's a good thing. It keeps you f young and fresh. Yes.

SPEAKER_02

And I think also a big thing. about this walk and if you're a young pastor also is having mentors over you. Yes. Having people that hold you account not only accountable because it sometimes if you're not spirit led it could get out of hand. But also people that check in Yeah, yeah. That check in Yeah, like how are you? How are you feeling? Have you been eating? Have you been exercising? How how's how's your mom? How like how's your wife? How's your kids?

SPEAKER_01

Care care about me beyond the four walls.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's the you. Mentors that are spiritually led but towards you, not the title you carry, like you said. Yeah. Yeah. It's oh it's not good to do this by yourself.

SPEAKER_04

Because as pastors we're focused on the sheep. Who's focused on the sheep but no nobody's focused on us. You know it's like oh the the pastor didn't call me the pastor didn't give me a hug. The pastor didn't say hi the pastor didn't say bye. Okay the pastor I'm just using you as an example. The pastor's mom died how many of y'all called him how many y'all texted him how many of y'all checked up on him pastor I know you gotta go to New Jersey. Do you need anything? You want me to come with you do you know what I'm saying? And so y'all expect they expect us to give them our all but we're the ones feeding you.

SPEAKER_01

Who's let me ask you a question right you don't think that when Jesus resurrected the next day he could have ascended to heaven?

SPEAKER_04

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

But he stood 40 more days.

SPEAKER_04

Yes he did.

SPEAKER_01

And after he resurrected the first thing he did was he went to find his disciples because then he knew they were scared. Right. He knew that they thought they were the next ones right and he shows up you guys are good no tengas miedo I'm here. What was he doing? He was checking in on them he he didn't say hey listen I was I was gone for three days did you guys continue to preach were you guys still casting out demons were you guys still healing the sick yes that's good he checked up on who they were I know you guys are scared. Don't worry about it. X, Y, and Z. Follow up. That's what's lacking in the church. Yeah the follow up is what's lacking in the church and I get it the church gets big but then you start to do a follow-up team.

SPEAKER_04

Right.

SPEAKER_01

Hey you good? I didn't see you on Sundays. Right. Knock on my door hey I didn't see you what's this I heard you were sick. What's this? A $50 Wa Wa car why I heard you I heard you're a truck driver. I heard you like the Wawa coffee. There should be enough coffee for two weeks. It's little things like that that make people say yo they care about me.

SPEAKER_02

Wow yeah in a in a sense of um we're talking now to youth pastors pastors that are young it's always good to surround yourself with a godly community of pastors that you can sit down with and be like especially if you're independent because you guys are independent it's like there's certain things that happen that um yes you go to the Bible and the Bible tells us everything that we need to do even how to deal with a difficult member or how to expose this type of sin like it teaches us everything. It's also good to sit down with other pastors that you have that you feel like you have divine connection and I stress that yeah pray about it you pray about pray about who can be the who can play that role yes that you can be like listen I I just wanna I just want to shoot the one with you. I just want to talk to you there's something that's been heavy on my mind that you can vent that you know because there's certain things that you cannot vent with the members of the church. Your own mother like me I have my own mom I cannot go there's things that I don't tell my mom because I have to protect her heart. Me and Pastora were talking about this that's good. And they're of age already so yeah and there's there's certain things that we carry and and the Bible says cast your burdens like who do I Matthew 112 I want to be able to call Pastora and be like Pastora look listen this is what's going on what what do you think about this? Right right he you see him like that he's been in this walk but he has his man that he goes to I was talking to Lesa Pan yeah so I I encourage that if you're in this walk not to go at it alone to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance for him to put divine connection pray about it really big just don't lend your your like don't expose yourself and don't to people that are not gonna that are not spiritually led and that are not there for you that you tell them something and they're gonna tell the whole world to tell the next person.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah you gotta be very cautious that's that's true.

SPEAKER_04

And um I can honestly say we're gonna take that advice you know um it's been hard for us though I can imagine you know what makes it difficult is that we're so different that we haven't found another set of pastors that match us if that makes sense right to where it's like like I don't I can't I can't have a mentor that isn't on board with what we're doing.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah because your is it's the vision God gave exactly so they gotta be okay with that I'm not saying you gotta taste like I'm not saying you gotta be me no you know it'll be okay with what we're doing what you're doing very difficult for us you guys pray you guys pray and say hey guys listen you're you're going God will let you he'll let you know you already brought them I know it's on the dollar line to us you know you guys can always reach out to us oh absolutely you know moving forward I'll reach out to you guys from time to time hey just checking in on you guys what are you guys doing right right you know and now that I know you guys be driving some from time to time to Jersey that's it so wrapping up yeah let's do uh one piece one quick piece of advice each of us to give to a young person that's in ministry what would it be if you could pick one thing Pastor less I'm uh okay I'm gonna talk like personally right okay um maintain that focus because in a beginning you're gonna wanna if you're anything like me you're gonna want to do this for all the right reasons and rush right and not that I rushed into ministry because I didn't but nobody allowed me to rush into ministry but rushing in the sense like okay I have to do this I have to do that I have to do this because see what I caught myself doing was I caught myself doing things that other pastors I saw doing way before my time.

SPEAKER_04

Yes like you were rushing.

SPEAKER_00

I was trying to do things that a 20 year veteran did in year one yeah right so my advice to you bro stay where you are learn where you are and grow from there that's so good.

SPEAKER_04

Yes for me I would have to say learn to demand respect because right being in ministry you gotta be okay with not being everybody's friend right because there's people that can see you as friend but they're not gonna respect you as pastor.

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_04

But there's people that will see you as friend and still respect you as pastor. Right? So you have to know who right you can give that friendship to that is still going to respect you when you're like you're wrong.

unknown

Right?

SPEAKER_02

Because when you're friends and now I got to correct you and it's like oh no pastora she she wallin because she told me blah blah blah blah no I I'm telling you what I'm correcting you right that's that's why we're here is to correct you right but when you have a friendship it's hard to to receive right like Jesus nobody where he was from they was like ain't that the carpenter's on what he doing yeah right because it's it's that spirit of familiarity so you have to protect your heart and and be okay with not being everybody's friend like not everybody gotta like you yeah my um my advice would be um this is listen if you don't like people and I get it maybe this this is not for you um it and I'm and I'm and I'm being very frank when I say this because last time I checked the guys that we served hung on the cross for even the ones you don't like even the ones that talk bad about you that they bash you that never understood you that don't believe in your calling those people he died for and um learning how to forgive and learning how to understand that this what we do is beyond us. We do it all for his glory we do it for the salvation don't forget that this is for souls to be saved this is his bride he is serious he's coming back for his bride he's coming back for us and um to understand that this is this is for his kingdom this is for his people and do it from there with a pure heart with forgiveness in your heart and that you're not doing it alone. Invite the Holy Spirit in to everything you do.

SPEAKER_01

Yes and if you're a mom Holy Spirit I invite you into my motherhood if you're a wife Holy Spirit I invite you into my wifehood if you're a pastora Holy Spirit I invite you into my pastora hood invite him into invite him into your hood he's the top dog in all the hood so invite him in and and do it with the motives it's never you yes it's for the audience of one and that's him that's good that's the one liner the audience how do I follow up that right yeah no listen um my my advice is simple if you're young in ministry and ministry overall learn how to rest learn how to rest he slept 10 hours left yeah he's like who's driving back to Coca Cow his eyes were gone listen it was the food I'm telling you um no learn how to rest learn how to take time um you know for your on a weekly basis you know um like me I I'll tell and my wife can tell you this um every weekend I'm not taking an engagement the most I'll take is two weekends of the month and then the other two is just for for family for myself for my kids um but on on a weekly basis take that one day or two days of the week and say okay today's just gonna be strictly about me and my wife and my family. That's good. Right? It cannot all be about ministry because then your kids are gonna grow up hating ministry you know have your kids have that memory dad was a pastor but he and my wife but he knew how to throw a baseball with me. Yeah you know we went on walks we went to the movies X, Y, and Z, right? So learn how to balance and rest. Just learn how to rest.

SPEAKER_00
