In this episode Pastors Les and Luz Quiñones talk about the Purpose and the reason for their podcast.

SPEAKER_02

What's up, everybody? God bless you. This is Pastor Les, and always with the beautiful Pastor Luce. And this is Talking with Purpose. Talking with Purpose the podcast. It's great to be here. This is week two, but do not trust us. We might not come back next week. On podding.

SPEAKER_01

Don't trust our reliability.

SPEAKER_02

Don't trust our reliability with the podcast. All right. But before we start, if you hear any noise, those are two little girls. God bless them. They came here. Because there's nobody to watch them. So they have to come and make noise.

SPEAKER_01

We have church later.

SPEAKER_02

But we do have service today. Discipleship is gonna be fire. I wish I was close. You ain't even gonna see this today. Anyway, so today, today we are gonna talk about a very specific subject. And the subject is why we even started this thing called Talking with Purpose the podcast.

SPEAKER_01

Right. This uh talking with purpose was birthed from listening to other people and being like, bro, they just talking nonsense. Like literally, that's literally how we thought. Right? And so we thought, like, what if we started something to where we can actually speak about things with a purpose, right? Like, not just to make people laugh or anything like that, but more for building than anything else.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yes, you know. This is a great platform that anybody could use, to be honest. A great platform that anybody could use to get their point across, get their opinions out there. Because there's a lot of like-minded people, believe it or not, that think a lot like you, they think a lot like us, and maybe they feel like they don't have the voice to express themselves. So this is a great way to do it. About talking with purpose, we did start it a long time ago. It didn't have a name. We used to go live on Facebook and Instagram. Uh COVID hit, so we started buying the things we needed. Uh, then in the same time, we moved out here to Ohio, and my boy Hoodie Hoods, love you, bro, he came and connected everything for us that we bought, and then we started potting officially. That's when we gave it a name called Talking with Purpose. So, talking with purpose is also about talking about these conversations that the church doesn't really want to have, right? They claim that there's a lot of things that they talk about, but they really ain't talking about nothing. Right. A lot of things are very taboo when you bring them up personally with struggles. Personal struggles are things that the church really doesn't like to touch or talk about. They don't like to be transparent, right? Transparency is so important in the life of a believer because God told me specifically, I remember I told him, I just want them to see you. He said, Well, then be transparent, because if you're transparent, they see me. They don't look at you. And I took that and I made it a thing in my lifestyle, babe. I'm like, okay, then I'm gonna be real. And a lot of people ain't gonna understand me. Why does he talk like that? Why is he talking about that? That's private. But my God told me to let that out because he wants them to see that a believer can be transparent and can struggle and talk about the things that the church ain't talking about.

SPEAKER_01

Right. And I mean, a lot of people are having conversations, right? Like there's a lot of great podcasts out there, absolutely, but there's also podcasts where they don't do anything for you, right? They don't do anything for your life, you don't take a step forward, you either stay stagnant, right? Or you take a few steps back, right? And so we wanted to be able to show people that there's so many things that is more important than the way you look. Right? And so, and I'll use us as an example, right? Like, you wear fitteds, you wear sneakers on the altar, right? Like, and we grew up with like eso no séace. Yeah, you can't do that. You can't do that.

SPEAKER_02

Don't wear that, right?

SPEAKER_01

And so, even with just like as simple as like this is just a pet peeve of mine, is when I hear somebody preach and their talking voice is different than their preaching voice.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like, that's a pet peeve for me, you know what I'm saying? Like, it's like you don't even sound like that for real.

SPEAKER_02

Like, no, no, you know you don't talk like that. Now, for me, it is different though, because and it's not that I have a preacher voice, I just get hype. You know, I get hype, I'm very passionate when I do what I'm doing for the Lord.

SPEAKER_01

But you get hype all the time.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'm I'm hype now.

SPEAKER_01

Like, w earlier we were on I was on the phone with somebody, and he's so excited about discipleship today that he was talking also, excuse me, he was also on the phone. Well, like I was on speaker phone, and I'm like, bro, you're yelling. And he's like, I'm sorry, it's just I'm so excited about discipleship, and we're not even talking about discipleship.

SPEAKER_02

No, but I'm hype about discipleship. I really am. So uh yeah, we want to have these conversations and and we wanted to use this platform and the ability and the skill we have to conversate because we are good conversationalists individually. I'm a great conversationalist, and those people that had conversations with me, they know that. People that had conversations with my wife, they know that she can conversate, right? And we're all you know what? Another good thing about this, we could use this platform for building. My wife just touched on some podcasts. You watch them as entertainment. Right now, I'm not saying there ain't gonna be no entertainment here because we're human beings and we like to have fun, right? But at the end of the day, we want you that when that episode finishes, we want you to leave with something that's good that you can take to tomorrow, take to later on, apply to your life so you can start to see a transformation in your life.

SPEAKER_01

The reason why we specifically use the word purpose is because everything we do is on purpose. Right, right? The way we dress is on purpose, the way we talk is on purpose. Yes, right? Like we have a sign on the church, it says different on purpose. Right, right. So when you walk in the church's doors, don't expect to see Pastor Les in a suit and tie.

SPEAKER_00

No.

SPEAKER_01

Can he dress like that? Absolutely, yes, but does he do it all the time?

SPEAKER_02

No, absolutely not, right?

SPEAKER_01

But but I also feel like we're very relatable. And I love to see so many other pastors that are coming out now that are relatable.

SPEAKER_02

Ain't it crazy how we have to say coming out? Yeah, look at that. That's crazy.

SPEAKER_01

Because that wasn't the case before. No, that was not the case before, but now you're like, wow, like another black pastor, right? Another, another pastor that wears jeans, another pastor that wears fitteds, another, you know what I'm saying? Like, these were things that this generation that is uprising is not afraid to be who God called them to be. Right, right. And that ties into purpose, yeah, right? Because when you know your purpose, it doesn't matter what I say. You're gonna do what you need to do because you know your purpose. Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, ma'am. Yes, ma'am. And then when you know your purpose, you're able to flow in your authority. Yes. Right? So when you know your purpose, you're able to flow in your authority. When you know your purpose, you know the power you possess. Right. And you're confident. You're confident in what your purpose is. That's why when people try to change anything about you, you're locked in. You're like, nah. That's not the way it's supposed to be. I feel in my heart to do it like this. We felt in our heart to do church the way we do it.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_02

And that is it. That's how we're going to do it. We're not gonna do it the way you see it online. We're not gonna do it the way you see other people do it, right? We're gonna be different, and it it goes because one of our monikers is different on purpose, as she said earlier.

SPEAKER_01

Uh there's so many times in my life where I felt stuck, or I felt misunderstood, or I felt like no one understood me. Right? And even now, like, it's so hard, especially being in ministry, you almost feel like nobody understands. And I wish that we had people like us. I know. Right? Like when I first like came to Christ for real, for real, right? When I first came to Christ.

SPEAKER_02

Wait, for real, for real? What do you mean? There was one where it wasn't for real?

SPEAKER_01

No, because wait a minute. No shade. Wait a minute. Come on.

SPEAKER_02

Let's let's see what she's talking about.

SPEAKER_01

Let me just start with saying no shade. Um, I grew up Catholic. And so, look, my mom will be drinking on Saturday, cutting up. And Sunday morning, we sure was at Mass with the hands held high, doing the doing the the Ave Maria, whatever. Holy, holy. Taking communion, right? Right. But the night before, like, she was a hot mess express. So that was my childhood. I never took God seriously. It was like, yeah, God exists, but that was it.

SPEAKER_02

That was it.

SPEAKER_01

That that that was as deep as I got with it. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But if I would have had, like, we say this to people all the time. Like when people come to us for advice or whatever, right? We say, we wish that we had people like us around. Yeah. Right? Like, we we counsel people in their marriages. And literally, I'm like, I tell Pastor Lass like, bro, if we would have had another couple that would have been able to help us for real, like, we could have avoided so much more. Like, we almost got divorced for real, for real.

SPEAKER_02

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

Right. And even though it didn't happen, right, by the grace of God, but what if it did? Right? And so those what ifs are what pushes us to continue to be the difference and continue to talk about the things that people don't want to talk about or are too afraid to talk about.

SPEAKER_02

Right. And also continue to walk in our purpose.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_02

Continue to have these conversations with the intention of something happening for whoever listens. Right.

SPEAKER_01

Because a lot of them are hard topics.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Oh, we're going to have more of those.

SPEAKER_01

You know? And and a lot of them are like stigmas in the within the church. And and this podcast isn't always going to be about church, but we're pastors, y'all. Like God's gonna be sprinkled in into everything.

SPEAKER_02

You're gonna be sprinkled everywhere. You know what I'm saying? Don't let me do it, because I'll preach all day.

SPEAKER_01

But there's so many things that other people don't feel comfortable talking about, right? And so it's about having those hard conversations because people think that they have to come to Christ when they're perfect.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_01

It's not about when you're perfect, you're never gonna be perfect.

SPEAKER_02

Never.

SPEAKER_01

Right? But there's gonna come a point in time where you're going to be okay with the fact that you're not perfect.

SPEAKER_02

Right. And that's where we want everybody to be. And that's what we teach here. Bro, you ain't gonna be perfect. Never.

SPEAKER_01

Your flesh.

SPEAKER_02

Your flesh will never be perfect, but your spirit is made perfect through Christ. Don't let me preach. Please continue.

SPEAKER_00

That's why we that's why I said flesh, because I knew you was gonna you was gonna go on a tangent.

SPEAKER_01

No. But we're not, right? And it's not that we're applauding sin and we ain't saying here, like, oh, when you come to Christ, you don't gotta change. That's not our job. Right? Let the Holy Spirit do what the Holy Spirit does. Right. It's not my job to change. Let them work.

SPEAKER_02

Like the kids say now. Let the Holy Spirit cook. Let them cook. Let them cook. For real. That's what they say. Let them cook, man.

SPEAKER_00

You sound like the boys.

SPEAKER_01

I don't even know the terms nowadays. Oh my gosh. This is like super left field. But Eli, he's our oldest son. And he'll be saying words, and I'll be like, I'll literally look at him and I'm like, I don't know what that means, bro. Like, I really don't. And he's like, he gets so frustrated. And it makes me feel old. Yo, that's like, bro, I'm only 38. I avoid 39.

SPEAKER_02

I avoid certain conversations with younger guys. Because of that. Because of that.

SPEAKER_01

Because of the slang?

SPEAKER_02

No, because it makes me feel a little old.

SPEAKER_01

I don't feel old until they start using words that I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

That's what I'm saying. That's why I avoid some conversations. Like if I know they're gonna they're gonna use a slang, I'd be like, bro, I ain't even gonna talk. Lost all up in the sauce. Like, yeah. But then they also pastor don't know what we're talking about.

SPEAKER_01

They use words that mean something else. And how many times we've been like, bro, that's not even what that means.

SPEAKER_02

That's not even what it means. Or like that's how we use it.

SPEAKER_01

Right. For us, it means something else. And for them, they're using it for something else. I can't even think of something off the top of my head, but that's this generation. But nonetheless, I digress.

SPEAKER_02

There was a whole squirrel moment there.

SPEAKER_01

Look, that's that's my brain. Um, but when you understand your purpose, right, like we're focusing on the word purpose because again, like I said, everything we do is on purpose, you know. Um, that also ties into identity, right? Like when you don't know who you are, you're it's easy for someone to manipulate you. It's easy for someone to confuse you, it's easy for someone to literally do whatever they want with you.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they take advantage, right? Right? The the these people are thirsty for manipulative control. And when they see someone they can manipulate and control, you're all theirs.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. So a big part of purpose is also learning how to hear God in the middle of your life. Not just in the quiet moments, but also when you're struggling.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_01

Right? And again, transparency, we struggle.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, yes, we do. All of us do.

SPEAKER_01

Right. And we struggle also with like how many times, and like y'all, just because we in ministry don't mean that God listens to us more than anybody else. Let me just start with that.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_01

Um, but there's been so many times where I'd be like, Lord, you you hearing me right now? Like, where you at, bro?

SPEAKER_02

Right, yo. I've been praying, I don't hear nothing from you. Right. That happens to pastors too, guys. Yeah. Because maybe your pastor be acting like he connected. 24-7. My man lying, bro. If he's saying that, he's lying to you, bro. That's straight up. I'm sorry. And that's staying. But I get passionate about that because I'm I'm like, bro, let's be real here, man.

SPEAKER_01

It cracked me up.

SPEAKER_02

Now you know you ain't that connected like that, bro. Like, I'm not saying you can't be, but nobody's gonna be a hundred.

SPEAKER_01

You crack me up when you be like, how God talk to him more than he talked to me.

SPEAKER_02

Bro, like, bro. Calm down with all that. Let's be real and be human.

SPEAKER_01

Let me stop before he goes on a whole tangent. Oh man. But you know, again, we just really want this podcast, and I know we're starting over, like, we done started this podcast over, like I think three or four times. So many times. Um, but we are actually leaving the episodes on Buzz Sprout. Right. Like uploading them to Buzz Sprout.

SPEAKER_02

So go listen to them on all your streaming platforms.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you can listen to them on there. Um, but again, it's purpose, right? And so if you feel stuck, if you feel if you're confused about something, if there's something that you want us to touch on, if there's a topic that you feel like people aren't okay with talking about, or if you have a question or whatever, like drop it in the comments.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_01

You know, like we don't know everything.

SPEAKER_02

No, we're learning too. And that's what I mean. Stop being stop acting like you know everything too, bro. Like we're learning, everyone is learning, everyone is, and if you're not learning, then you're not caring to grow. That's just what it is.

SPEAKER_01

Literally, if you're not learning, you're not growing. Literally, and everything, even with the church, like everything with the church is learn as you go for us. Yeah. Because we don't we don't we don't have mentors. Um, right? And so I don't know why that is. I'm not even gonna go into it, but we've had to kind of learn by by trial and error. That's the word I was looking for. By trial and error, right? Like this happened, okay. How can we avoid this for next time?

SPEAKER_02

Okay, so this is how we avoid it. So next time it doesn't happen, and if it starts happening, we know how to cut it off.

SPEAKER_01

Right. So it's that's that's just the stage that we're at in our life.

SPEAKER_02

But I feel like that goes with everything in life.

SPEAKER_01

It does.

SPEAKER_02

Everything in life, you don't know it before you do it. But you know, you know, that's not you have to be taught. Like in Right. You have to be taught to know how to do it. When it comes to this, though, we haven't been taught. And then, you know, it's like, oh, but the Holy Spirit is the teacher. Yeah, he's the teacher, but I need I need a human here to there's more logistics. Yeah, right. It's it's deeper than that. It doesn't get deeper than the Holy Spirit. Don't misunderstand me. I'm just saying, like, there there's more to it than just that. You know, having that, man, I personally went through this. This is how you avoid it. Listen to me. Let's sit down, let's talk. Right. Right? Let's talk. Let's make this an important conversation so you can learn, take notes, whatever you need to do.

SPEAKER_01

But that's also if you really look at it biblically, the Bible talks about mentors. Right? The Bible says, woe to him who falls and doesn't have someone to pick him up.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_01

Right? Like, that is important. Um, and the reason why that's important is like like I tell my kids, right? Learn from my mistakes. Don't make the mistake and learn from your mistake. Like, if I'm telling you, don't do that because when I did it, right? Like if I say, Oh, don't jump off a building, because when I did it, da da da, right? And you're like, Well, I'm gonna try it and see what happens. It's like, bro, like you just I don't even want to say the word.

SPEAKER_02

It's kind of like they they they want to see what'll happen to them.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_02

They know what happened to you. Like that was and they're like, that's them. I'm stronger, I'm more agile, I'll hit a flip right before I hit the ground, and I won't get hurt the way mom and dad did. So I'm gonna do it right. No, no, we're trying to help you avoid the hurt.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. And so again, that's our mission. Our mission is to be able to accomplish that through our podcast. But we also um do faith-based life coaching. Yes, right? We do that individually. I only take women clients. Pastor Less only take men only takes men clients.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, please say clients after that. Well, let's be real.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_02

My face is red. It it went I had to say it. I heard her, and I'm like, pause, bro. In my head, I'm like, pause, bro. But yes, I don't even I don't I was gonna say, I only do men. That's also horrible. You know what I mean. Oh, I got it. I only conversate with the men, and my wife only conversates with the women.

SPEAKER_00

That small part makes it too real.

SPEAKER_02

So I will only conversate with the men, my wife will only conversate with the women, and but we do couple ones too.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, marriage. We do marriage coaching also.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, marriage coaching, which is very important, man, if you're married.

SPEAKER_01

And uh disclaimer, we are not therapists. Right. Okay, so don't come asking me what medicines you should take, if you got bipolar disorder, if you I'll tell you take VIX. I bae.

SPEAKER_02

Rub some VIX on your own.

SPEAKER_01

That's not what my grandma would say VIX VIX fixes everything.

SPEAKER_02

VIX fixes everything. Nah, but all jokes aside, we are not doctors. We're we're not we're not to um give you any advice on medication, none of that. This is simply coaching you through life. Right. Coaching you through life, situations that happen. How could I approach this? How could I approach that? Because my wife and I, together, we've had a lot of experience, but also individually. I have my own life that I lived prior to my wife. She had her own life that she lived prior to me.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_02

Which I don't I you know what? I don't even understand how you lived without me.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my goodness.

SPEAKER_02

I don't get it, guys. I don't I think about it and I'm like, she's so blessed, bro. Like, how is it that she lived a life? Like, she literally lived a whole life without me. I don't understand. I I wish I could understand how that went, but you know, the great thing is that she got me now, right?

SPEAKER_01

Okay, Lorak. I can't, I can't stop because Juan called you that in a Facebook post.

SPEAKER_02

Bro, shout out to Pastor Juan, he'd be having me.

SPEAKER_01

I can't. Um, but how many times have you gone through something and you'd be like, bro, I wish that I had somebody to talk to? Not only somebody to talk to, but someone that is gonna be unbiased.

SPEAKER_02

Right, right.

SPEAKER_01

Bro, I don't like being surrounded by people that are gonna tell me what I want to hear. Don't tell me what I want to hear. Yeah, tell me the truth. Yeah, tell me if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Yeah, you know what I'm saying? And like that's that's the real truth. And so we're also here to provide that, right? Like, that's what we're here for.

SPEAKER_02

And and real quick, I'm I want to say that we're here to provide that for you guys in transparency.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_02

Right? Not know floated. I'm not gonna give you what what I know you want to hear. No, right, I'm gonna give you what you need to hear, whether you like it or not. And sorry.

SPEAKER_01

Go ahead. Go ahead. You first because you forget.

SPEAKER_02

I forgot already. Go.

SPEAKER_01

I just wanted to say that you don't have to be a believer to get coaching from us.

SPEAKER_02

No, you don't.

SPEAKER_01

I we say faith-based because everything for us goes back to Christ.

SPEAKER_02

Right. And it's important that, you know, people know that that's where we stand. Right. Uh there's no conversation we can't have, but there are things that I'm not even gonna say. Anyway, go ahead, man. Let's let's wrap this up. Yeah. Okay, so uh if you guys are interested in any of our life coaching, please hit us up. Uh you can write it in the comments down below.
